WHY THE CUCUMBERS?
As you know, this week is dedicated to the amazing creatures of the holothuria. Another name for them is "sea cucumbers.” So why are they addressed like that?
Calling them
"sea cucumbers" is not a coincidence. Apparently, researchers noticed the
unusual property of holothuria to shrink, and become covered in bubbles, when touched. After such a metamorphosis, holothuria do resemble an
ordinary cucumber from the vegetable garden...
For all their funny appearance, holothuria are
the most important aquatic inhabitants. For example, sea cucumbers recycle the remains of plants,
and other living creatures, deposited on the seabed.
The ARL project considers these representatives worthy of special attention, not only to conservationists, but also to holders! We won't reveal all the cards at once, but let's just say that our cucumber holders will definitely be happy at the end of the week!..!
