A recent trailer for the Fruits Basket anime prequel confirmed that the new animated movie will take a closer look at Tohru's parents. The cartoon is based on the popular TV series Fruits Basket, which tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan adopted by the Soma family. Joining the new family, Tooru quickly discovers their secret. She finds out
that the Soma family is cursed to turn into Zodiac animals whenever they feel upset or are hugged by a person of the opposite sex.

While Tohru's parents are only seen in flashbacks, the new anime, which is a prequel to the story, will explore Kyoko and Katsuya's relationship before Tohru.
In the anime directed by Yoshihide Ibat Katsuya, the story helps Kyoko find new hope after a series of difficult events. Kyoko seeks comfort and peace in Katsuya as she struggles with family and school problems. It is already known that the prequel will officially be released in select theaters in the US and Canada on June 25, 28 and 29.
The UK will release a dubbed release on July 20th. In other countries, anime will be shown on a floating schedule.
