Ralph Fiennes, star of No Time To Die, will appear alongside an all-star cast including John Lithgow and Stanley Tucci. The picture, according to the information confirmed by the authors, will be a film adaptation of the book by Robert Harris "The Conclave". Originally published in 2016, the novel takes the reader into the walls of the Vatican for 72 hours,
constituting a titular assembly, where influential cardinals must choose a new pope. In the original book, Cardinal Lomeli, Dean of the College of Cardinals and an important figure in charge of the Conclave, is about to preside over the meeting and juggle ambitions to increase his power. The plot takes a sudden turn with the arrival of an unknown cardinal.

Ralph Fiennes will play Lomeli in the adaptation, opposite Stanley Tucci's Cardinal Bellini and John Lithgow's Cardinal Tremblay, according to Variety. Joining the cast is Isabella Rossellini, who takes on the role of Sister Agnes. Edward Berger has already been appointed as the director.
The script was written by British playwright Peter Strogan, best known for adapting the novels Get Out Spy! and Goldfinch 2019.
