STEVEN SPIELBERG TOLD ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF "JAWS" ON CHANGING POPULATIONS OF SHARKS

And although the film "Jaws" has become one of the most famous in Steven Spielberg's rich filmography, actually acquiring a household name through the title of the picture, he himself greatly regrets that the plot of the project had a negative impact on the shark population.

A side effect of the Jaws story couldn't get past Spielberg.
He himself stated this during his interview for the BBC podcast called "Desert Island Discs". In his opinion, although the film became a cult film, it brought a lot of negativity to the image of sharks:

“This movie still gives me mixed reactions. Many viewers began to have a different attitude towards sharks.
If earlier they considered them to be ordinary marine inhabitants or predators hunting for other fish, then after the “Jaws” the situation changed. Sharks began to be seen as brutal killers. This affected their population as hunters and poachers began to crack down on many sharks.
