MetaMask wallets on Apple devices are at risk of hacking

Automatic data backups could cause cryptocurrency users to lose their money

Popular cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask warned that automatic data backups on Apple devices could increase the risk of hacking.

The manufacturer recommended that users disable such data backups.

If attackers gain illegal access to sensitive data uploaded to iCloud, they could steal a MetaMask user's cryptocurrency. The warning was published on the project's Twitter a few days after a MetaMask user lost NFT and cryptocurrency worth $655,000 after iCloud was hacked.

Apple's mobile devices can automatically download app data.

As a result of backups, files containing private keys can be uploaded to the company's cloud services.

They can be accessed by intruders. E.g., as a result of a fishing attack.
