Tornado Cash said it is blocking sub-sanctioned addresses at the frontend level

Ethereum mixer Tornado Cash said it is blocking cryptocurrency addresses that have been sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control within the U.S. Department of the Treasury (OFAC).

"Tornado Cash uses chainalysis oracle contract to block OFAC sanctioned addresses from accessing the dapp.
Maintaining financial privacy is essential to preserving our freedom, however, it should not come at the cost of non-compliance," the statement said.

Chainalysis oracle is a smart contract that checks to see if a cryptocurrency wallet address is on the OFAC sanctions list.

Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Semenov noted that address blocking is provided at the application frontend level. According to him, the service's smart contracts are "unchanged."
